Net voor we met vakantie gingen kreeg ik een ongebruikelijke opdracht. Of ik een wapenschild zou kunnen maken, een reliëf. Het komt aan een gevel aan de Keizersgracht en is een bestaand wapen van een historische figuur, Frederick Coyett (1615-1687). Hoofdzaken moesten vrij veel diepte krijgen en grootste stuk moest behoorlijk in het vlak blijven. Het grootste deel is een doek dat wappert. Dat was een uitdaging, om in 4 mm diepte het doek te laten wapperen. Maar ik ben heel tevreden met het resultaat! Het wordt nog geschilderd in de kleuren die het hoort te hebben (Blauw, goud, zilver, rood zwart) en dan komt aan het huis waar deze man woonde, Keizersgracht 460.
Just before we went on holiday I got an extraordinary assignment. Could I make an escutcheon in relief? It is to be placed on a façade on the Keizersgracht. It is an existing escutcheon of a historical person, Frederick Coyett (1615-1687). Important elements were to have some profundity but the mayor part was to be quite shallow. This major part is a flapping curtain. To make this flap in a profundity of 4 mm is quite a challenge. Now I am very happy with the result! It will be paited in the adequate colors; blue, gold, silver, red and black and then placed on this façade, Keizersgracht 460, where this man used to live.

Tijdens een van de concerten van het Yuri Honing Quartet, waar mijn lief Joost in speelt, zag ik een beeld in mijn hoofd verschijnen. Ik tekende het, zoals ik dat af en toe doe en voerde het later uit in mijn atelier. Het stuk waarbij het ontstond heet Zitelle. Toen het af was liet ik een foto aan Yuri zien. Het stuk was geschreven voor de Zitelle, het water in Venetië.
Ik had gehoord wat hij had geschreven! De kleur, de steegjes die uitkomen op dit water, duisternis en helderheid en onzichtbaar mysterie. De Universele Essentie die je op duizenden manieren kunt waarnemen….
During one of the concerts of the Yuri Honing Quartet, in which my love Joost plays, an image appeared in my head. I drew it, like I sometimes do and created it in my studio. The piece that evoked this sculpture is called ‘Zitelle’. When it was finished I showed a picture to Yuri. This piece was written for the Zitelle he told me, the lagune in Venice.
I had captured his music! The color, the alleys that end in this water, the obsurity, the clarity and the invisible mystery. The Universal Essence one can observe in a thousand ways…
The sculpture of the little boy, Ferdinand, originally of a French Sculptor, made about 150 years ago, has transformed in a sculpture of 2015. Only the copy made me itch. Itch until I gave in. So I started to change the skin and then the color. Now the French-ness has become even more prominent to me. It was finished just after the attacks in Paris.
It has become a sad sculpture. Innocent and affected.
