The third firing is outside. I heat the portraits up to 1000 degrees and take them out of this kiln. I wait until I hear the glaze crack, a tingle. Then I put them in the bin. I close the bin (later, to prevent lots of smoke bothering the neighbours with a wet cloth around) and let them sit there for a while. The smoke gets in the places without glaze, the back, and also the cracks in the glaze...
